Intro to Improv 

This is where your improv journey starts where you’ll learn the skills needed to create strong improvised scenes. Some of these skills include building ensemble, giving and taking focus, object work, and, one of the most crucial fundamentals of improv, the concept of “yes, and.” Students will be introduced to both short-form and long-form style improv. It's going to change your life.

 

The Comedy Arena Intro to Improv Comedy Class is a fun, supportive way to learn improvisational thinking, gain self-confidence, develop business soft-skills and meet new people. 

 

While enrolled, students can see Comedy Arena shows for FREE.

*No experience or prerequisites required.

Advance Improv

Take your improv journey to the next level where you'll learn how audiences and their suggestions can spark inspiration to create entirely improvised worlds full of comedic scenes, stories and characters. All classes meet once per week for 6 weeks followed by a student showcase. While enrolled, students can see Comedy Arena shows for FREE. PRE-REQ: Completion of an intro to improv/level 1 improv class.

Class will collective decide if there will be a class on Thanksgiving week or if class will be pushed out a week.

Character Development 

Continue to hone the skills necessary for doing strong scene work and building ensemble. Students are introduced to the skills needed for character work, an element essential to dynamic improvised scenes. You'll explore creating characters through internal motivations, like point of view, status, wants and intentions, and external ones, like experimenting with physicality. You'll learn how to make choices in scenes that help define your character.

PRE-REQ: Completion of an intro to improv/level 1 improv class.

Perfecting The Game

This Advanced Shortform class is for those students that have learned the basics of improv and are ready to put them into action. The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the nature of shortform improv, learn the structure of a show, why we do the things we do, and most importantly how to turn on the charm when on stage. You will learn improv “games” typically included in a ComedySportz match/show. 

PRE-REQ: An Improv Level 1/Intro Class taught at some comedy school/institution.

Spacework and Emotions 

Go further, grow stronger, laugh harder. In this course we will equip players with the improv tools needed to deliver solid scene work, focusing on emotion, listening, spacework and more! You will learn how to be great scene partners, as well as how to build meaty stories with zero script, zero rehearsal. A final performance on our stage will showcase these next-level scenes. 

PRE-REQ: Completion of an intro to improv/level 1 improv class.

Students who have taken and completed the equivalent of a Level 1 Improv class at another comedy/improv institution are able to skip The Comedy Arena's Intro to Improv class, however they must take some sort of Intro Class in order to enroll in the other courses.
