The Comedy Arena Training Center For Improv 

Improv! Where sometimes having no plan is the best plan. Whether it's improv for business, improv for actors or improv just for fun, our classes cater to those looking to dabble in this super fun art-form that celebrates ensemble and teamwork.  

Our Improv Program is a complete foundation in the principles of improvisation, covering all elements of the improvisational process. Students begin with introduction to both short form and long form group play, environment, and space work and end by rehearsing and performing their own fully improvised show.

Improv Level 1 - Intro to Improv 

This is where your improv journey starts where you’ll learn the skills needed to create strong improvised scenes. Some of these skills include building ensemble, giving and taking focus, object work, and, one of the most crucial fundamentals of improv, the concept of “yes, and.” Students will be introduced to both short-form and long-form style improv. It's going to change your life.

 

The Comedy Arena Intro to Improv Comedy Class is a fun, supportive way to learn improvisational thinking, gain self-confidence, develop business soft-skills and meet new people.

Improv Level 2 - Characters, Emotions & Spacework

Take your improv journey to the next level where you'll learn how audiences and their suggestions can spark inspiration to create entirely improvised worlds full of comedic scenes, stories and characters. Explore how emotions can put your scenes in motion and how to make more somethings out of nothing.

PRE-REQ: Completion of an intro to improv/level 1 improv class.

Improv Level 3 - Short Form Improv Games

This class is for those students that are ready to tackle the high speed fun of shortform improv. The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the nature of shortform improv, learn the structure of shortform games, why some choices are better than others, what works on stage, and most importantly how to turn on the charm when on stage. You will also learn how to "Host" or "MC" a show.

PRE-REQ: Completion of our Level 2 course.

Improv Level 4 - Advanced Longform Improv 

Go further, grow stronger, laugh harder. In this course we will equip players with the improv tools needed to deliver not just solid scene work, but a solid show. Students will use all the tools they've learned to build a show that's unique to their class and will have a run at The Comedy Arena.  You will learn how to be great scene partners and meaty story tellers. This class is followed by a Graduation

PRE-REQ: Completion of our Level 3 course.

Improv Intensives

 

Continue to hone the skills necessary for doing strong scene work and building ensemble in theses 1-day drop in classes. Students are taught new skills and tools to incorporate into their improv toolbelt. With your newfound skills, tips and tricks, you'll be even more equipped to enter the world of what makes an improv scene work. You'll learn how to make choices that works best for the scenes and your scene partners to create stories that have never been created before.

 

 

PRE-REQ: These are usually open to all levels, but sometimes, completion of an intro to improv/level 1 improv class is recommended.

Improv Masterclasses

 

Continue to hone the skills necessary for doing strong scene work and building ensemble. Students are taught how to utilize all of the tools in their improv toolbelt is filled with skills, tips and tricks, in order to enter the world of what makes an improv scene work. You'll learn how to make choices that works best for the scenes and your scene partners to create stories that have never been created before.

 

 

PRE-REQ: Completion of a Level 2 Improv class.

While enrolled, students can see Comedy Arena shows for FREE.

Students who have taken and completed the equivalent of a Level 1 Improv class at another comedy/improv institution are able to skip The Comedy Arena's Intro to Improv class, however they must take some sort of Intro Class in order to enroll in the other courses.
